N. Santhanam was born on January 21, 1980, in Pozhichalur, near Chennai, Tamil Nadu. He completed his schooling in Chennai and later earned a diploma in electronics and communication.


However, his passion for acting and comedy pulled him toward the entertainment industry. Inspired by legendary Tamil comedians, Santhanam began his journey as a mimicry artist before stepping into television.



2. Television Fame – Lollu Sabha Days

Santhanam rose to fame through the hit TV comedy show “Lollu Sabha” on Vijay TV. The show spoofed popular Tamil films with witty satire and became a huge hit among the youth. Santhanam’s natural humor and impeccable comic timing made him a favorite across Tamil households. The success of Lollu Sabha gave him recognition and opened doors for his film career.



3. Rise as Tamil Cinema’s Top Comedian

Santhanam transitioned to cinema with supporting comedy roles in films like Manmadhan (2004) and Sachien. His real breakthrough came through collaborations with director M. Rajesh in Siva Manasula Sakthi, Boss Engira Bh askaran, and Oru Kal Oru Kannadi. Between 2010 and 2014, he became Tamil cinema’s most in-demand comedian, starring alongside major actors like Vijay, Suriya, Ajith, and Dhanush. His punch dialogues, quick wit, and expressive body language contributed significantly to the success of many films.



4. Shift to Lead Roles

In 2014, Santhanam made a bold shift from comedian to lead hero with Vallavanukku Pullum Aayudham. The film did well, encouraging him to take on more solo hero roles. He followed it up with hits like Inimey Ippadithaan, Dhilluku Dhuddu, and A1. Santhanam carved a niche for himself as a comedy hero, blending humor with commercial elements, and proved his versatility beyond being just a sidekick.


5. Legacy, Production & Personal Life

Santhanam is known for transforming Tamil cinema comedy by making it integral to the story, rather than separate tracks. He owns a production house called Handmade Films and continues to act in lead roles. Off-screen, he maintains a private life and is married with children.
