Suriya was born on July 23, 1975, to veteran Tamil actor Sivakumar. Despite coming from a film background, he initially hesitated to enter the industry. He completed his schooling at PSBB, Chennai, and graduated from Loyola College with a commerce degree. In 1997, he made his film debut with "Nerrukku Ner", produced by Mani Ratnam, but initially struggled to establish himself due to criticism of his appearance and acting skills.

2. Rise to Stardom (2001-2010)

Suriya's breakthrough came with "Nandha" (2001), directed by Bala, where he played an intense role that won him critical acclaim. He followed it up with blockbuster films like "Kaakha Kaakha" (2003) and "Pithamagan" (2003), proving his versatility. His performances in "Ghajini" (2005) and "Vaaranam Aayiram" (2008) earned him widespread recognition. By the 2010s, he became one of Tamil cinema's top actors with hits like "Ayan" (2009), "Singam" (2010), and "7aum Arivu" (2011).

3. Versatility and Socially Relevant Films (2011-Present)

Suriya expanded his roles by choosing socially relevant films such as "24" (2016), "Soorarai Pottru" (2020), and "Jai Bhim" (2021). "Soorarai Pottru" won multiple national awards, and "Jai Bhim" was globally recognized for its strong social message. His choices reflect his commitment to meaningful cinema.

4. Philanthropy and Influence

Apart from acting, Suriya is known for his charity work through the Agaram Foundation, which supports underprivileged students' education. He continues to be a role model, balancing commercial success with socially responsible cinema.
